everymonth에서 새로 시작한 서양사 공부
한 달에 한 번 모이는 것이지만 발제자들의 성의있는
준비로 얻을 것이 많은 수업이 되고 있습니다.
마침 이번 모임에서는 서양철학의 출발에 관한
아트마니아님의 발제가 있는데
미리 게시판을 통해서 자료를 많이 올려주어서
도움이 많이 되었지요.
헬레니즘 시대에 관한 장이 제가 맡은 부분인데
철학사에서 견유학파,회의론,그리고 에피쿠리안과
스타아 철학이 바로 이 시기에 이야기된 중요 쟁점이란
것이 아주 간단하게 언급되고 말았더군요.
아무래도 서양사가 위주인 책이다보니 다른 부분에 대해서까지
상세한 언급은 어렵겠지요?
내년에 화요 철학사 공부 모임이 생기면 무슨 책을 읽을까
고민하던중 오래 전에 사서 한 번 읽고 꽂아둔
D.K출판사의 STORY OF PHILOSOPHY를 꺼냈습니다.
그런데 그 책중에 마침 헬레니즘 시대의 4가지
철학사상에 관한 언급이 그래도 자세하게 나와 있어서
도움이 많이 되더군요.
덕분에 노트 한 권을 사서 철학노트라고 이름 붙인 다음
철학이란 무엇인가부터 시작하여 스토아 철학까지
재미있게 읽으면서 정리를 했습니다.
그리고 나니 책읽기에 탄력이 붙어서
그리스,로마 철학기행을 뽑아서 다시 읽기 시작했지요.
독일 철학교수가 그리스,로마의 철학이 탄생한 현장을
찾아다니면서 일반인들도 알아들을 수 있는 표현으로
설명을 하는 책인데요 오래 전에 읽었을 때 이해하지 못하고
넘어간 개념들이 오늘 제 안에서 녹아드는 느낌에
전율했습니다.
아하,그렇구나,혹은 아니 이 설명은 조금 비약이 아닐까
그렇게 반박하기도 하면서 읽는 책읽는 시간의 즐거움이라니
그동안의 이런 저런 책읽기가 오늘의 독서를 이렇게 즐거운
경험으로 만든 준비작업이었단 생각이 들어서 행복한
날이었습니다.
DK에서 출간한 이 책은 외국의 청소년을 위한 책인데요
아이들에게 이렇게 철학사를 설명할 수 있다는 것이
정말 신기했습니다.
사실 어른이 보아도 손색이 없는 책이기도 하고요
영어도 별로 어렵지 않아서 함께 강독해도 좋은 책인데
문제는 가격이네요.파운드로 15파운드정도라서요'
그래도 한참 읽을 것을 생각하면 좋은 선택인 것 같기도 한데'

I am a student of philosophy. I enjoyed this book very much as a student and I have taught this book in diffrent schools. I think Professor Magee describes story of philosophy in the best ways. A student can be aware of all philosophical matters from their origins. Also I have read both magee`s Great Philosophers and Men of Ideas. With best wshes for my master Prof. Bryan Magee
