솔직히 저는 제 실력이 의심될 때가 많아요..

어떻게 하면 영어를 한단계 더 업그레이드할 수 있을까요...

아까 언급했던 GIU 말고 미국 Idioms dictionary 말고도..

한국에서 시험잘치는거랑 현장영어는 틀리더군요. 한국에서 토익 거의 만점에 외국에디터랑 같이 일하는 경험으로 미국왔고 영어 잘한다고 생각했었어요. 근데 처음 와서 버거킹갔었는데 For here or to go? 이걸 포히어오아루고 해서 못알아들었죠. 스타벅스가서 아메리카노 주문했는데 Do you like to have room for milk? 이것도 당시 뭔말인가 싶었고. 학교 친구가 이름 묻더니 What do you go by? 뭔말인가 ㅋㅋ 닉네임 물어본 거.

암튼, 한국에서 사시면서 이정도 성적이면 엄청나고 다른건 그냥 경험의 영역이라 꾸준히 쓰시면 될 것 같아요.

제 개인적으로는 매일 밤 애들이랑 책 읽은거랑 Speech 및 public speaking 하면 상승효과 봤던 것 같아요. Debate 는 전 너무 못해서 포기했는데 아마 이런 부가적인 활동들이 도움많이 될거에요.

Any ideas on how I can improve my English capability to the next step? Apart from the GIU series that I mentioned in my last post, and the idioms dictionary...

*PS Does it really make me old fashioned not to know what GIU was until a few years ago? I'm in my 30s...maybe I haven't had much of an interest in English..

Taking tests in English here in Korea is different from English on the ground. An editor I know who got full marks in the TOEIC exam went to the US with me and I assumed I would have no problem comprehending, but I was wrong. At a burger king joint, the counter pronounced "for here or to go?" in a choppy accent, and at Starbucks when ordering an Americano the counter said "Do you like to have room for milk" which to me made no sense at the time. A school friend asked "What do you go by" and ... that went over my head as well. It turns out he was asking what my nickname was.

In any case, living in Korea and achieving this slew of scores is an amazing feat. Other parts of the language are part of experience, so use it as much as you can.

Personally, I think reading with my kids, speech, and public speaking made a mark. Debate was too challenging for me but these extracurriculars will surely help lots.

Wow you really are good at this aren't you. I can only imagine how much effort you must have put into it. An acquaintance of mine speaks great but is a little weak on the exam score side of things like the TOEIC...

Do you read English newspapers by any chance? If whenever I read a passage it is legible, it's usually written by a Korean. The grammar is fine, but there is a strange awkwardness about it. When I read passages written by Americans in Youtube feeds, I have to stop several times because of the unfamiliar expressions that pop up. But yours is perfectly legible without those stops.

But I agree with what one of the replies said that while the grammar seems fine the expressions seem somewhat off... unless you've spent your entire life overseas or in the US and repetitively traveled abroad and then came back, the longer those interim periods tend to be the more choppier the English gets... unless you take a special interest in tending to English study and at the same time are able to avoid all the school English pitfalls in Korea... it feels like I've hit a large brick wall.

You'd better give a bigger focus on natural flows of English sentences. I feel "Korean vibe" in your writing. Your sentences look good in grammar but flow in a very Korean way. I think it'not bad and very natural. When I read Korean, Chinese and Japanes writers' books in English translation, I find it's far easier to follow them than English-speaking writers' books.

And I find a little confusion of point of view in your last writing, the "unless" parts. You used "you" not "I", in those sentences, but I thought the situation was expressed in detail, showing that it was not an example for readers but your real experience. So you'd better use lead the sentences with "I".

Rather than test books or dictionaries or grammar books, You'll be helped by exposures to context-based long sentences and dialogues in TV shows, story books or movies. Funny and real stories show natural flows which are missing in textbooks.

I think it's not bad and very natural -- I don't think it's a bad attribute; it's only natural.

When I read Korean, Chiense and Japanese writers' books in English translation -- When I read the translated versions of Korean , Chineses and Japanese works of literary art...

I find it's far easier to follow them than... -> I find them far easier to follow than works authored by native speakers.

And I find a little confusion of point of view -> And I find there's a confusion on your part when you use "unless" because you used "you" instead of "I", but you were intending to describe a personal experience to shed more light on the previous sentence by way of providing an example. So those sentences are better led with an I in the begining.

보니까 우리가 보기에 바이링구얼들도 라이팅이 완벽히 되는 경우는 없더라구요. 라이팅은 정말 궁극의 경지.
